Troop 48 started when Scout Master Bill Hawkins, John Murray, and Steven Arnold met with Pastor Bill Haley to start a new Troop in Santa Clarita California. The Troop quickly moved to a boy run program with membership from Val Verde to Action. Our first events included first aid, orienteering, cycling, back packing, the district camporee, and car camps.
Over the years we have Rock Climbed in Joshua Tree, Backpacked in the Sierras, and the Santa Monica Mountains. Camped throughout Southern California. Fathers and Sons in the troop ventured into Canada for a week long Canoe trip and have attended various Boy Scout Summer Camps. Each year the boys gather together to form an events plan for the troop and then take on the responsibility to make it happen. A typical year will include, Rock Climbing, Back Packing, Air Shows, Camporee, Skiing, Car Camps, Summer Camp, and working Charity Events.
The troop is proud of it long term association with The Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children’s Cancer. Troop 48 scouts and family each year have help to set up and break down the foundations dinner. Troop 48 over the years has contributed it’s time and resources to Sulphur Springs School, Carrousel Ranch, Hart Park, Placerita Nature Center, Scouting for Food, Blood Drives, The Los Angeles Police Department and Relay for Life. Our Scouts are encouraged to contribute in the community in which they live.
The Eagle Scouts from our troop who have entered the community contribute in the fields of Medicine, Engineering, Business, Aviation, Military Service and Police Work.
