Nearly three months since Pasadena football coach DeJuan Shamburger resigned, the school announced Thursday that it has hired Dilan Clark to take over the program.

Clark was expected to be formally introduced during a ceremony at the school Thursday, and he was supposed to meet with the football team for the first time.

Clark was born and raised in Pasadena but played high school football at Upland. This will be his first job as a head coach. He served as an offensive coordinator at Claremont and Alta Loma during different stints over the past eight years.

Clark also has been an assistant at the collegiate level.

“Coach Clark truly has a passion for serving others whether it’s volunteering at Sunday school or being a helping hand to the less fortunate in the communities he works in,” Pasadena High posted on the Instagram page for the football team. “Coach Clark is thankful to be back in the city that raised him and ready to get to work for the season ahead.”

Clark has been an assistant coach for the past 12 seasons and won a CIF Southern Section championship as a football player at Upland, the school’s post noted.

Clark replaces Shamburger, who started as an assistant at Pasadena in 2009, then became the head coach in 2016. Shamburger coached seven seasons and had an overall record of 41-31.

Pasadena won its third straight Pacific League title last season. The Bulldogs also beat rival Muir the last two years, which included a 47-0 win in 2022. It was the Bulldogs’ most lopsided win in the series.

Pasadena was 24-5 over the past three seasons and advanced to the Division 7 semifinals in 2021.
